May 2018 Leadership Council - International Messes to Avoid

Companies can find themselves "suddenly global" by hiring one salesperson in France, where no business had existed before, and now the company can claim global status.  But, the HR ramifications may not be thoroughly vetted, and even the question of how to pay the new hire may have to be answered overnight.   While the business venture is exciting, the HR and other operational matters may become "messy."  How can they be avoided or minimized?

Jane Booth, Vice President at Globalization Partners, has dealt successfully with international HR issues for 10+ years, including work with BDO in its tax services division.  She focuses on helping companies eliminate barriers to doing business internationally and is adept at solving these problems related to HF compliance, visa sponsors, local employment contracts and more. Jane's undergraduate degree is from the University of Surrey in Linguistics and International Studies.  She has been on the board of RefugeeNet to assist newly arrived refugees primarily from South Sudan, Burma and Iraq.  (Jane tells us the "salesperson in France" is a common scenario!)
